intel question?

Hey guys im new to this site so forgive me if I mess up on anything.

I read a few threads on here about the mos 0231 i think intelligence specialist? I have yet to pick my job and I am fully aware it shoudnt be my biggest concern at this point. I just want to make sure im getting into a career field I will enjoy.I pretty much get the basis of the job I just want to know if you have any choice on what kind of unit you get deployed to? The reason I ask although i have not one problem with picking up a rifle and doing what needs to be done it's just not number 1 on my to do list. Im just wondering the dangers of the job and what kind of unit i will most likely be working with if I chose this job?Thank you in advance.

On the contrary, you should be VERY focused on getting the job you want. Some of the older folks on this board say, "Well back in my day, we all went in open contract!" Sure, that might have been the case back then, but if you can pick your job, why not pick a job that is suited for you? I'm a radio tech, and I love my job. I would have hated life if I'd gotten stuck as Motor T. Sure, I'd probably be a decent Marine regardless of where I ended up, but the fact that I actually like coming to work makes me even better.

You don't get a choice when they assign units. You DO usually get to state your preference, (East, West, or Overseas) but other than that you go wherever they tell you to go.

As for danger, depends on where you end up. They have HUMINT teams who go out and interview locals, and yes, they get shot at. They also have entire Intel units who sit in air-conditioned shops and sit on the telephone and computer all day long. Intel really runs the gamut.

Intell goes with EVERY unit. There is a thread that talks about the day to day duties of an 0231 as a sticky in this section.

As an 0231 I served with the Air Wing, Force Service Support Group, and at Headquarters Marine Corps. There are billets for 0231's EVERYwhere in the Marine Corps.
